The Americans’ love of sonic ice cream has not diminished in any way over the years.

But now you don’t have to buy a hamburger from Sonic to get their delicious ice cream.

Now look at the best Sonic Nugget ice machines. 1С9

Scotsman, the company that supplies Sonic with the ice machines responsible for their chewing ice, has sold a Sonic household ice machine that you can install in your own kitchen for a number of years.

Scottish icebreakers are very popular in the south of the United States, where summers can be very hot.

Following the success of the Scots in retail, more and more ice cream brands now offer Sonic ice cream machines that produce nugget style ice cream in the comfort of your own home.

But have you ever thought about how these delicious ice cores are made?

And why are they so different from the harder, more traditional ice cubes?

The first thing you need to understand: You can’t make a sound nugget out of an ice rink.

Most domestic ice producers produce spherical ice cubes instead.

In order to make ice cream for sonic pellets at home, a specialised sonic ice machine is required.

Scotsman is one of the best known brands producing sonic ice cream. They offer a range of household ice machines that can be used to make nugget type ice cream at home.

Another popular brand is the Ice-O-Matic, which is ideal as an under-counter ice machine.

As you will see in our guide, we consider both small portable sound generators and larger, stand-alone, under-the-table ice machines.

However, if you need exactly the same wooden shoe as the one sold at Sonic, I strongly recommend that you buy a free or stand-alone ice machine. You can’t make native ice cream in your freezer, so an ice cream maker is perfect for you. There are different types of ice generators. It can be compact (for a small family party) and for commercial use.

A special meter or an integrated sonic ice machine can cost you more, but the quality of the ice is better than with a portable device.

Upgrade to a portable model if you want softer chewy ice cream, but not necessarily sonic ice cream.

Portable ice generators are also ideal if you need a car that you can use in your caravan, boat or campsite.

Another important point: Try not to make a nugget of gold in the freezer.  That’s not gonna work.

With conventional ice cubes you can leave the ice machine and make your own ice cubes in the freezer using a mould. It can be cumbersome and take more time, but it is possible.

But if you want the best quality ice cream, stay with Sonic ice machines. As you will soon see, making natural ice requires more than just ice water.

Now let’s talk about how sonic ice is actually made.

From water to nuggets: Method of making acoustical ice

1. Water

Just like any other type of ice, the Nugget starts with clean water. The water you use can have a significant impact on the quality of the ice you produce.

For example, filtered water makes the ice less turbid and produces slightly softer nuggets. Pre-sprayed water can also produce purer lumps, because the water has a lower air capacity.

Unlike thin ice, the aesthetics of native ice is of little importance. Taste and texture are the most important aspects. While the water’s drunk, you can leave.

The way the water is delivered to the ice maker depends on the type of machine you have. If it is portable, add water to the tank. If it is an unavailable or stand-alone device, it probably needs an active water supply.

If your appliance uses water pipes, make sure that line has a filter in line. If not, add one. It is very important that the water quality is the same.

Water filtration also removes most of the minerals that can damage the structure of the ice and clog your ice machine.

2. Freezing methods

When water gets into the Sonic ice machine, a very cold journey begins. This is where the traditional ice cube machine and the nugget ice machine are wasted.

In the traditional production of ice cubes, the water is passed through a bowl with various ice cube shapes.  The cooling system freezes the water like ice.

Once the cubes are installed, the tray heats up to remove the ice cubes and place them in an ice tray that the owner can scoop up.

Here you can see how a traditional ice machine works.

Unlike a traditional ice cube machine, the ultrasonic ice cube machine does not use theice cube tray.

Instead, a cylindrical tube with a rotary screw is used.

Like a traditional ice cream maker, it uses a liquid refrigerant to freeze water.

The refrigerant circulating in the pipes extracts heat from the water, cooling it to ice flakes.

The flakes are naturally attached to the cold wall of cylinder.

The slowly rotating screw then scrapes the ice flakes from the wall and transports them to the upper end of the cylinder, where there is a drain to the ice bunker.

Note: sonic ice machines do not use. For example, the uses less electricity than conventional ice machines.

3. Nuggets

The last part of the journey, from the screw conveyor to the ice bunker, varies from car to car.

In most Sonic ice machines, the flakes are collected and pressed through a compression tube where they emerge as nuggets.  They dissolve naturally under the influence of gravity.

On other devices, the knife cuts the nuggets as they are pushed out of the tube. This results in more uniform grains.

More expensive models use a more subtle approach before the ice is released.

First of all they can compress nuggets, next to that they had to get rid of the excess water.

Compressed ice cubes are harder and slightly harder than Sonic. They’re not as crunchy, but not as hard as ordinary ice cubes.

Compressed nuggets are ideal if you want Sonic Ice to last longer in your drink. They are particularly suitable for outdoor bars, restaurants and cafes.

In the video below, Figure shows a compressed icebreaker sound to show how a nugget is made. The rotating object is a screw that scrapes the ice flakes off the wall and pushes them upwards.
